Beehive Pendants

Lighting can transform a space.  Not just the illumination which designer Allegra Hicks recently stated in an interview “ is key to feeling well in a room”  but the fixture itself.

Take the “beehive” pendant for instance.  It’s lightness and whimsy makes a statement in any space whether a hallway, bedroom or bathroom.   It’s particularly difficult to find pretty yet simple fixtures for hallways where you  may need two or three.   There are all kinds of, what we in the design biz call by it’s technical term,  “boob” lighting – you know the ones I mean, right?   Not very attractive.

Enjoy these pretty photos from Phoebe Howard’s portfolio.  I have written about her work previously here.

I love both the clear glass and white glass pendants which come in different sizes.  Aren’t they just the cutest things?

  1. I love these pendants! Where can you get them?

  2. In Toronto, you can get them at Union (had them on display), Sescolite, Elte or any major lighting store. The ones I have seen are by Robert Abbey but I'm sure they are made by other manufacturers.

  3. Thanks Vanessa. I am having some major issues finding lighting that I like for my living room, so I think I need to make a trip to a large showroom like Union to see every option out there.

  4. The beehive light is very retro looking. Didn't think I would be a fan...but I really liked it the bathroom pic above!!

  5. Agreed, these fixtures are very cute! I especially love that first photo with two clear ones hanging in the hallway.

  6. I don't think I've ever seen a beehive light fixture before. Definitely WAY better than a boob light! I prefer the clear glass version, and they look great paired up in the hallway in the first picture.

  10. I'm kind of in design overload at the moment trying to do multiple rooms at the same time. And lighting is one of the things I'm torn about. So hard to make a final decision!

I was happy to visit the house today and find that all potlights and new lighting rough-ins have been complete, so that's a good start.
