Something Blue + Giveaway

No, this isn’t another wedding post!  The publishers of House Beautiful’s latest book “Blue – 350 Inspiring Ways to Decorate with Blue” sent me a complimentary copy to review (and will provide a copy to one lucky reader!)

I love the House Beautiful books which are a collection of images from the magazine supported with ideas and advice from interior designers .  This one has to be my favourite thus far.

Decorating with blue is timeless, versatile, appealing and  a fail-safe choice when decorating.  I realized that I have included some of  the images in the book in previous blog posts.  See here, here and here.

The book shows how blue can work in any room and with any colour scheme.  This bedroom decorated by Tom Stringer in a navy and white colour scheme is bold and fresh.

While this bedroom with a muted blue and orange scheme is more tranquil.  Designer John Willey points out that “the orange isn’t too bright because it’s printed on tan linen rather than cotton.”  And by cotton he means a white ground – good tip!

This is one of my favourite images from the book, in part due to the gorgeous blue textiles but also the idyllic setting. Le sigh…

    We painted our living room blue, and inherited a blue tile bathroom. Our kitchen is turquoise and we have some blue in our bedroom as well. Love blue!

    I would love this giveaway and yes, I have an accent wall painted navy blue. My accent colors are "Georgia Clay" burn orange. Go blue!

    I LOVE blue. My kitchen/dining room has light blue walls and navy accents, my living room has a light-teal-blue-and-tan rug, my bedroom is gray with accents of light blue, and my master bathroom is royal blue.

    Wow, lucky you Vanessa! And I agree with you about the House Beautiful books. I have the fabric one and it's amazing!

    So, I have a lot of blue in my home - a blue plate wall, a lot of blue artwork and I am planning on painting my living room "Robin's Egg Blue"! I just can't get enough!

    fabulous giveaway! if i weren't already sold on this book by your review, the picture of how it looks on a bookshelf would've sealed the deal! blue is such a beautifully soothing color, i'd love to see all the rooms highlighted in this book :)

    I follow you on twitter and FB...and yes, i have a pale blue Master bedroom and Master bathroom. I also have cobalt blue accents throughtout our main floor. Any and all decor books are good books to own.

    This sounds great! Our new house seems to be organically evolving into a house that contains a lot of blue. I'm planning on painting the kitchen a kind of cross between ice and robin's egg blue.

    Oh this is fabulous- I have a bluey/turquoise in my main bathroom and a deep blue on the back of my chinoise cabinet- would love a dark dark blue on the walls in some room eventually!

    We painted our current bedroom North Sea (CC-932) by Benjamin Moore and I'm considering it for our bedroom in our new house in July. I love it! I also use Navy blue as a accent throughout the house.

    I would love this book...my 15 y/o son's room is painted Clearest Ocean Blue by BM (his choice)..turned out great. I love decorating with blue and white, find it very calming and reminds me of the ocean..

    I would love this book! Most of my home is decorated in blue, I love that I can move pillows, accessories etc to change things up between rooms. Blue has always been my favorite!
