All of this snow has me thinking of white. The cover of the February Country Living magazine stopped me in my tracks. This is one of the few magazines that I don’t subscribe to but I may have to rethink that. The cover looks very Eddie Ross to me (although he wasn’t involved) – love the carefully edited collections and the neutrals with blue.
Even though I love colour in my own home, there is something simple and lovely about a home decorated in shades of white.
The first home featured is this San Francisco Victorian which was restored over a period of ten years.
Love the modern kitchen with the antique/vintage mirror and chandelier.
White also transformed this traditional cabin in Montana.
Vintage finds take center stage in this New Jersey home which is featured on the cover. Notice how the rug is different from the one on the cover – the blue one works nicely with their blue font!
Rachel Ashwell, Darryl Carter and Suzanne Kasler provide their insight into decorating with white and provide their Go-To white paint colours.
Have you seen this issue? What are your thoughts on decorating with layers of white?
This is one of my favorite print mags, lately it has revamped and has a more modern county aesthetic.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures! I saw this magazine the other day and was taken with it. I used to buy it 15 years ago, but the articles got progressively worse and the content less and less. Maybe it's time I gave it another try.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this issue yet, but it looks amazing! I love the look of decorating in white, but I don't think I could do it! I love colour too much! I'll just admire these pictures instead...
ReplyDeletePersonally I love white and find many of my clients do as well especially if they have great furniture, art and other stuff to show off.
ReplyDeleteGreat selection of photos, wish I had that San Fran architecture in my house!
Thanks for the insight. I might have to buy "Country Living" again.

What do I think about white??????? My favorite! My whole house is painted white! Love these images and I usually don't buy that mag either but they sucked me in with the cover. I was not disappointed!
ReplyDeleteI havent seen this issue but I don't think there could ever possibly be a white room I didnt admire. Your collection of photos are a stunning reminder of just how fresh white is...I'm all over the the shelving with all the whiteware.
ReplyDeletecheers
Susan
I had not seen this issue before, but I think I am ready to go and pick it up after seeing your post. I love that bedroom!!
ReplyDeleteI love decorating in white, unfortunately with two big dogs and a baby on the way, I just don't think decorating our whole home in shades of white would be too practical. So I'll just look at photos like this and dream about having an all white home ;)
Oh my goodness, I have to save some of these photos, they are too good! Don't you just love all the millwork in that San Fran home? Lovely!

I love a home decorated in white but couldn't do that in my own, I love black just as much! I am trying to step out of my comfort zone and add bursts of colour.
ReplyDeleteAlso having a chocolate lab and a boy who seems to attract dirt wouldn't work:)
I love white - not nearly enough of it in my home.
ReplyDeleteYou would have loved the colours and fabrics at Kravet today, too bad you weren't there. Hope to see you soon! :)
So funny - I had the exact same experience. I was intrigued by the cover in the supermarket so purchased it and just loved the issue - so many beautiful spaces!!
ReplyDeleteAh these photos are a breath of fresh air, so perfect for a new year. I love decorating with white, it's a lot harder to get the right white than people probably understand but when done well there's nothing like it.
ReplyDeleteI love white but I think a house has to have good bones to carry it off and be south facing, I had a disaster with it here in Scotland in a dark room, it was depressing.
ReplyDeleteWhite on white is my all time favorite! I totally need to go out and get this issue. :)
ReplyDeletebought this issue simply because of the cover, so pretty.
