Great giveaway Vanessa!! I have tried in many ways to restore items around our home rather than getting rid of them, including refinishing and painting our ugly kitchen cabinets and that shelf in my living room!
ReplyDeleteNancy
I thought I was already a follower, but I wasn't -- now I am!! :-)

Looks and sounds like a great book :-) I bought chairs and a round pedestal table from Kijiji that I'm going to refinish and put in the loft to use as a spot for playing cards & board games.
ReplyDeleteOne of my easiest makeover projects I did was spray paint all the old crappy metal floor vents in our house. Amazing what a couple of coats of oil rubbed bronze can do!!

Great giveaway! I repurpose by buying furniture on craiglist, and then painting and reupholstering it. I love giving things a new life!
ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa! Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. What a great book ~ I love these pictures! I have been redoing my wood furniture with paint to update it instead of buying new. I'm also looking to get a Queen headboard for my master bedroom from a thrift store {or similar} that I can paint and make to my liking.

ReplyDeleteI posted your giveaway on my blog sidebar, Vanessa!

Ooh fun giveaway...i restore using old sari fabric...well plan to make some cushions at some point!
ReplyDeleteI love shopping at an antique mall. I think I've cleaned them out of silver trays and blue & white export ware. Can you ever have enough of either? ;)
ReplyDeletedeltadawnbc@hotmail.com
I get a thrill from finding something special at garage sales, thrift/antique stores, or online sites such as craigslist. I can't believe some of the treasures I've found - wing chair, oil paintings, silver, jadite dishware, baby stroller and toys, world map, books, clawfoot tub....I can go on and on. It is nice to have something you know is not sold in big box stores. It's even nicer when they're free!
ReplyDeletebossraines@gmail.com
What a cool book! I love to buy furniture on craigslist or at garage sales. I've been known to change them up with some turquoise spray paint! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am a follower of yours and am in love with Freecycle! We are currently doing our own work on rebuilding a cottage on top of our barn, there is nothing more rewarding than finding things others no longer are using and fixing them up for a whole new life!! You certainly can't get that kind of character buying new!! Your giveaway book sounds fantastic!
ReplyDeletesay hello to your newest follower!

ReplyDeleteOh this book looks great! I have had a few old pieces that I've re-done and find it very satisfying! I've taken to browsing websites for pieces I can give new life to, and an having a blast. Underway are a 1950's dresser and bedside table, couple of chairs and I'm on the hunt for more - much to hubby's chagrin :)!

ReplyDeleteI love redoing older furniture - I currently have a 1960's dresser that I have sanded and will be painting shortly. I recently redid my powder room with a 1920's dresser as a vanity.
ReplyDeleteAdded the link to my sidebar....
ReplyDeleteWhat a FANTASTIC giveaway. I am in love with all the images, each one speaks to me. I am always reusing, recycling or re purposing something :) Whether it be an antique porch column split in 1/2 to frame a door way, piece of vintage furniture displayed on a wall, old door knobs on a stand, just to name a few.....Love to re-use! xo
ReplyDeleteOh, and I just became a follower.
ReplyDeleteI came over to visit after reading your comment on Maria Killam's site.
ReplyDeleteI repurpose and reuse a lot of stuff - picture frames are a big one. I repaint them, and even take the mats out and paint them to match the decor. We scan Craigslist for used items, and my husband makes wonderful furniture.
I am in! Love to reuse older items. I hit the yard and estate sales for deals. Would love this book in my library.

How generous of you to do a giveaway...thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome book...I definitely would love to have it!!
My entire home is decorated with antique pieces...the best way to recycle and reuse!! :)
When we remodel, we try to reuse as much of the materials that we tare out as we can (saves us money, too!).
I've just become a new follower and will put your giveaway on my sidebar!

Finding Fabulous
I always save the jars to our peanut butter and jams. We go through insane amounts and later the jars make great vases for flowers for around the house or to be given away.
ReplyDeleteThis is right up my alley! I write a weekly environment column and using the 3 Rs in all aspects of our life is something I always write about. In my home, one thing I do because I'm a photographer and have an abundance of photos, is to head to the local thrift store for frames. I often paint them to give them a new look. Again, using paint, a great find was some big old tubs and containers, that are now gorgeous planters. One of them holds a bunch of slippers at the front door for guests. I better stop writing now, but obviously I love this topic!
ReplyDeleteI just created a post that announces your giveaway (my blog post automatically also posts over at Facebook).

ReplyDeleteOoh this book is for me! I love repurposing old items to same them from hitting the landfill. Paint is the best way to add new life to tired things!

Great Giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI actually can't say that i have repurposed anything in my house... Is that bad?

Forgot to mention that I posted about this on my Facebook page ("Happy Baby Designs").
ReplyDeleteQuite a few years ago I took an inexpensive, green-coloured, faux-wood clothes armoire from my husband's bachelor days and repainted it a glossy black. I changed up the oak knobs for squared-off silver ones with a Asian-inspired look. This piece sits in my dining room and holds my extra serving dishes, vases and candles. I have had more compliments about it than any other piece in my home -- especially from men. It never seems to go out of style!
ReplyDeleteI would love this book, I am constanly trying to decorate & recreate thing for our home.My most recent was a old barn window I refinished for my laundry room.C_bee29@msn.com
ReplyDeleteI'm a brand new follower!
ReplyDeleteGoodness -- this book title is my life!!! I can be found daily on Craigs List trying to find new little treasures for our home. I also LOVE flea markets, yard sales & thrift stores -- - I love finding new purpose for old items!
ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa, I have followed all four of your requirements to be entered in your giveaway! Thank you for letting me know about it. I love to repurpose many things, I love taking an old container and using it for floral arrangements and I love to repaint old worn furninture and turn it into something wonderful. I'm a big crafter so I'm always creating something, it's what fulfills me! Good luck to everyone entering your giveaway, I'd be honored to win and receive the beautiful book!

I am a follower of Flowershopgurl and had to check out your blog. It is so much fun to find new uses for used items. My current project is making bags out of felted wool sweaters. Not really a decorating item, but repurposed! I will now follow your blog. I will share the link on my facebook page also!
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog site. I love to decorate and I hope to win this book. I am currently having a giveaway too, on my book blog site. Please come over and check it out.

Wow, what a neat giveaway. I came to visit you from FlowerShopGurl and I'm glad I did.
ReplyDeleteI tend to repurpose furniture over and over again. Spray paint, different fabric, stencils, stippling. My kitchen table is probably an inch taller now then when I bought it from all the treatments I've done to it over the years! ha!
Thanks for the chance.
Neat book! If I don't win, I'll have to buy!
ReplyDeleteI Love to recycle items for decorating or gift giving. My favorite trash items are windows, shutters, and old doors! But I am currently looking for a small shabby chandelier for my bedroom, I think they're so romantic!
ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa... what a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love to transform discarded items (junk) into usable and attractive home decor pieces. I find an interesting piece... sit it out and prop it up and think about what I can create with it. Then when an idea comes to mind, I grab some tools and go for it! Pallet to garden bench... tractor steering wheel to curtain hanger...

ReplyDeleteHi Vanessa, I just found your blog and I would love to enter your giveaway! I love to find bargains at second hand stores, garage sales and ebay! Some things need a total transformation, other things just need a good clean! Thanks for the great giveaway! xx
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower now. :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic giveaway. I don't currently repurpose, but thru the desginer challenge at my site I have realized that I don't need a new dining room... I just need to tweak it. It seems so silly to totally discard something so beautiful that is only a few years old!
ReplyDeleteOh my gooooodness......this book looks FAB.U.LOUS....and I adore upcycling...soooo...this little book would be right up my alley.
ReplyDeletePlease throw me into the hat too.
Warm blessings,
Spencer
I'm sorry I haven't dropped by until now... my delay means that Kelly has all the extra enteries ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy house is 70+ years old so EVERYTHING we do is about restoring! I also love to decorate eclecticly so try to incorporate vintage finds where I can.
Great looking book! I'd like it please :-)
Victoria
I'm co-chair of our garden club and I am organizing one program called using vintage and found objects in the garden. Does that count as recycling, reusing and repurposing? Please enter me in your contest! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever acquired a new piece of furniture in my life. All of my furniture is hand-me-downs or comes from junk/"antique" shops, and much of it needs restoring.

Country Living publishes the most amazing books & Restore*Recycle*Repurpose looks fantastic and is also our motto. I created a little Studio space in our home using found objects (curb side treasures)and garage sale finds. Every Saturday my daughter and I garage sale and when she purchased her first home (a Condo) last Summer, she furnished/decorated it completely with restored, recycled and repurposed items.
ReplyDeleteAs a military wife I have recycled and reused most everything around here. My baker's rack is now a laundry room sorter and cookbook holder. My laminate kitchen cabinets went from plain to Tuscany chic with wood trim, crown molding and glaze. I have painted pink wicker black to add to my sunroom, and hauled in every possible antique from Maine to Memphis. I did keep the same husband however! Sign me up. By the way, I collect tab tops for the Memphis Ronald McDonald House. There's more aluminum in one tab top than in the whole can - amazing!

I "repurpose" all the time, often more out of necessity than creativity. An old jar becomes a vase. A blanket becomes a tablecloth. And an apron becomes a kitchen curtain. I also like to make cards from recycled and repurposed paper.
