Snippets from IDS 14

Happy weekend!  Are you tired of this bone-chilling weather we have been having? Can’t remember our winters being so cold and long.

As I mentioned here, the Interior Design Show is on right now at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. I attended the opening night party on Thursday.  So much fun.  Here are a few highlights.

1) The Ikea booth was, of course, amazing. They always do an eye-catching, thought provoking kitchen and bath display. The kitchen with their grey Lidingo cabinetry looks beautiful with marble and brass hardware. The opulent chandeliers seem to pair well with everything. (My photos weren’t that great as there were a ton of people in the booth. These are from the Ikea Canada facebook page.)

And the bathroom! Whoa Nelly! These are gold mosaic tiles which I found out are available at Ciot in the Toronto area.  They are called Vanity Mosaic Gold Mirror ( ½ x 1 ½) and are sold by the 1.2 sq/ft sheet.  The retail price per sheet is $9.50. So very economical, surprisingly. Would you put them in your powder room?

They also had an antique daybed upholstered in one of their fabrics sitting on one of their new overdyed rugs.

2) The Cocoon booth featuring the Aerin Lauder collection was also a favourite.

3) Loved these wood pendants from Toronto-based the National Design Collective. In the right space, they would look stunning in a hallway or over a kitchen island.

4) Edgewater Studio glass tiles are always a show favourite and these tiles are part of their “ready to ship collection” which means a lower price point and quicker delivery. Yes, please!

5) Thoreaux is a new wallpaper company based in Toronto launching their collection of 8 wallpapers at the show. I’m smitten with the floral on the right called the Last Monarch and inspired by wallpaper from 1850’s Paris.

I also like the black  floral below called Royal Road.  Trés cool.

6) The Sarah Richardson Kravet fabric booth appealed to my love of blue. The petite bench in that pattern looks amazing.

Having what turned into an almost 3 hour dinner with friends before the party was a great way to kick off the evening.

And the funniest part of the evening was trying to meet up with our friend/photographer Stephani (right). For some reason, Christine and I couldn’t connect with her and then near the end of the night, we spot her in the crowd and run after her like mad women. So fun! (actually, it was funnier at the time)

(I like this photo because I look tall. :) Just ignore the shine – there were lots of lights overhead!)

The show is on tomorrow (Sunday) as well so if you have an opportunity to visit, you won’t be disappointed. Leave a comment to let me know if you went and what caught your eye!)

Stay warm!

  2. I can't believe Ikea sells overdyed rugs now...this is so cool! I would have to guess really hard that those kitchen pictures are from Ikea. Looks like you had a lot of fun at IDS this year.

    1. Yes, they do but I haven't seen them on the website or in store yet. So not sure when they are coming out. And that Ikea kitchen was gorgeous! Thanks for your comment Michelle.
