Karim Rashid for BoConcept

As a blogger, there are many invites to attend Media Previews for retailers etc. which I can’t always attend. When I received one recently to hear Karim Rashid speak about his new dining collection for BoConcept, I couldn’t pass it up.  Karim is a legend in the world of design with over 3000 designs in production, over 300 awards and working in over 35 countries. He was raised in Canada, and is now based in New York with an office in Amsterdam.

The Ottawa collection is named as an homage to his Ottawa roots – he obtained his undergrad from Carleton U.  The dining chairs are a quirky leaf shape and the table can easily expand to seat 10. Modern, sleek and fun!

The undulating waves acting as drawer handles give the sideboard presence and fits with Karim’s description of the collection as sensual and human.

The collection includes a few accessories including these coffee cups and saucers with painted images. One of them sports the same symbols that Karim has tattooed on his body – his own personal language!

You can see the entire collection and view short video clips of Karim talking about the creation of the pieces here.

Although I detest getting my photo taken (really, truly), here are a few snaps from the event (in which I look OK!):

  3. Great pics, Vanessa :-)

Funny, I kept seeing Karim Rashid at IDS12 in January. We even shared an elevator together on the Friday night at the Intercontinental - he wished me a good night when I got off on my floor, which I thought was pretty cool :-)

Love his Ottawa collection - I'm sure it has nothing to do with where I live ;-) The chairs are really unique, and neat about his tattoo being replicated on the cup & saucer.

  4. so much fun!! Too bad I couldn't make it to the BoConcept event! Will be there for sure next time. Loving the "wave" on the credenza... maybe able to use it for a project. I've got to go to BoConcept to check it out in person!
