DwellStudio + Robert Allen

I love attending design events/seminars to see what’s new and notable in the world of design.  I recently had an opportunity to preview  the DwellStudio fabrics soon to be available through Robert Allen.  I had seen the graphic and fun prints on their site but it was wonderful to see (and feel) them up close and personal.  The folks at Robert Allen said that we were the first designers/decorators in Canada to view them, even before their sales reps!

DwellStudio was founded by Canadian Christiane Lemieux in 1999 to fill the void in the marketplace for graphic, modern prints at an affordable price.  Over the years, traditional elements such as chinoiserie were added to the lines which include items for the home (such as bedding and linens), baby and kids.  In 2008, she inked a deal with Target resulting in DwellStudio becoming a well-recognized brand in the U.S.  Not so here in Canada but that will soon change.

The first collection of 72 fabrics for residential use is called Eclectic Modern and will be available through Robert Allen in August.  The collection also includes wovens, velvets and textures.  A contract collection (healthcare) will be available in the Fall.

I snapped these photos of some of my favourites.  Judging by the oohs and aahs, I’d say that the fabrics will do very well here.

Vintage plumes (above and below) shown in two different colourways is my favourite.  Wouldn’t this  look magnificent hung on an artist’s stretcher/canvas as wall art?  Also fond of Soft Scrolls (above) which would look beautiful as drapes.

The yellow fabric is Gate and comes in a number of different colours.  A few people were squeamish about Snake Chain below.  Notice the little snake heads?

These are images from the DwellStudio blog – much better than the ones I captured.  The partnership was announced in the July Traditional Home.

Aren’t they beautiful and fun?  I’m already thinking about where I can use them.

  2. Oooh! I love these fabrics, I especially love the yellow graphic print. That must have been so much fun getting to view all of these lovely creations in person :) The snakeheads look kinda funny at first, but then seeing it in grey on that chair looks really pretty! Thanks for keeping your readers in the know!!

  8. Wow, these are some beautiful fabrics!! I think my favourite is Gate. And even with the little snake heads, Snake Chain is very pretty. I'd love to see the reaction of someone who hates snakes after they sit down on a chair covered in that fabric and then realize what the pattern is!!

I'm looking forward to seeing these fabrics in person.

Thanks for your kind words about my drawings. I have the option to take perspective drawing next year, but I don't think I could handle it!! You should post some of your drawings on your blog :-)

I just discovered your blog and I LOVE IT! It's so great to read a Canadian decorator's point of view. I'm such a nerd; I went back and read ALL your posts. Keep them coming!
