Ikea Kitchens: Budget friendly and stylish

I love Ikea. I love their furniture styles, accessories and price point. And I love their kitchens. You can’t beat their pricing and 25 year warranty. I recently completed a small kitchen reno for a client using Ikea cabinetry and it turned out beautifully. Stay tuned!

On Sarah’s House 3 which is currently airing, Sarah Richardson installed an Ikea kitchen and painted the upper cabinets, lower cabinets and island three different colours. I thought it looked great especially the sunny yellow on the island. This country kitchen is fresh and current.

This kitchen is from Sarah’s House 2 and again she used paint to transform these Ikea cabinets.

I think that one of the reasons why design shows choose to use Ikea cabinetry, other than their great price point, is their quick availability.

On Colin and Justin’s Home Heist, Ikea cabinetry was used more often than not. Check out their site for the unbelievable before and afters. I really don’t know how they managed to find these homes but the transformations are brilliant! This first one with Ikea cabinets painted a beautiful turquoise is my favourite.

Design Editor Cameron MacNeil’s Ikea kitchen is featured in a House and Home video:

This is the winner of Ikea’s $25,000 Kitchen Makeover contest. You can view a video at House and Home. Notice the fabric on the chairs? They used Ikea drapery panels – genius!

This is one of the finalists in House and Home’s reader design contest.

And one last simply beautiful Ikea kitchen from House and Home.

There is no excuse not to have a beautiful kitchen. Please contact me at vanessa(at)vanessafrancis(dot)com to discuss your kitchen project.

  1. You found a great collection of beautiful Ikea kitchens. It's so cool to see how people kick basic Ikea cabinets up a notch with some vision and creativity. I like the turquoise cabinets too :-)

  2. I agree with you, Ikea cabinetry is good-looking, affordable, and quickly available! I like seeing the different ways designers 'personalize' this cabinetry like in Sarah's House with the paneling she used on the island, or how she doubled up the upper cabinets. And a gorgeous backsplash and countertop can make an Ikea kitchen look 10 times more expensive than it was!

  3. I knew Ikea had cabinets but girl, I didn't know they were this fabulous! I have the boring oak ones and oh how I'd like to revamp my kitchen and put in some bright white, non-wood ones!! Such a fun post. You've given me some great ideas here!!

  4. We are in the design phase of our kitchen and the bottom cabinets will be dark and the uppers white, so I am delighted to see this here. It just adds fuel to my fire and to the excitement of my new kitchen / lounge!

  7. I am a huge fan of IKEA kitchens. The ingenuity with which the cabinet boxes and styles can be applied is pretty limitless. I haven't seen the kitchen episode from Sarah's House 3, but her kitchen from Sarah's house 2 was one of my all time favorite IKEA kitchens. I've done two myself and always recommend them to anyone one a budget. You can see mine in my flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jfwithee

  9. Does anyone know what the tile is that she used in the kitchen of house 2? I know it is saltillo tile but what color and what is it called? I have googled and some say penny and some say hexagon. Thanks!! PS I am under a major kitchen reno, tore it all out including subfloor :) I looked at Ikea but my floorplan was not conducive for it. I wish they had more choices in cabinet sizes but you can't beat their price BUT Home Depot will price match with their Fabritech line as they are similar products. So I was able to have a great looking kitchen from HD for the price of Ikea. Can't beat that!
